The Basque Country is home to a number of prestigious cooking schools and highly-acclaimed chefs: Basque Culinary Center, Aiala Catering School, El Txoko del Gourmet, Higher Catering School. CEBANC, Iñaki Izaguirre Cookery and Services School, Artxanda Higher Catering School, Diocesana-Mendizorrotza Culinary School, Gamarra's Catering and Hotel Management School, I.E.S Ostalaritza B.H.I. - Galdakao (Galdakao Catering School), La Sartén de Cordelería, Leioa School of Hotel and Restaurant Management, Luis Irizar Cooking School.
This gastronomic culture has led to the creation of the first school in the world to offer an official undergraduate degree in Gastronomic and Culinary Science, and the only faculty to have its own research lab dedicated to gastronomy: the Basque Culinary Center.
The school is housed in a modern, 15,000-square-metre building in the San Sebastián Technology Park, and its International Advisory Board is comprised of some of the world's most influential chefs, including Juan Mari Arzak, Pedro Subijana, Ferrán Adriá, Gastón Acurio and Dan Barber.
