Salburua Wetlands, to the east of Vitoria-Gasteiz, is a refuge for flora and fauna of incomparable beauty. Its inhabitants include the European bison, a mammal in danger of extinction but which is the most emblematic species of the park together with the tiny Agile frog. Walkways across the water, bird observatories and scenic overviews make a trip around this park quite unforgettable.
In the south-east of Bizkaia and to the north of Alava, Urkiola Natural Park is a protected space containing the sanctuary of Saint Anthony the Abbott and Saint Anthony of Urkiola. It is one of the most revered and oldest sanctuaries in the province, located in the Biscay district of Abadiano. This park is also home to Mount Anboto, according to legend home to Mari, the greatest goddess of Basque mythology.
The area, breeding ground for the great Basque mountaineers, is perfect for hillwalking, mountain climbing and potholing.
Añana Salt Valley is a magnificent landscape unique in the world, formed by thousands of platforms or beds, springs, canals, wells and stores. Añana is one of the best conserved and oldest salt marshes, where for more than 6500 years, generations of men and women have continuously produced “white gold”. The setting and layout of the place are stunning, as is the quality of its salt, winner of an award from the “Slow Food” organisation as a produce of extraordinary value worldwide.
Izki Natural Park is a protected natural space of great geological, biological, ecological, scenic, archaeological and socio-cultural wealth. It has beech forests and a large extension of the characteristic undergrowth. This landscape is very different to the rest of Euskadi and well worth a visit. The mountains of Alava form a region perfect for hillwalking and BTT, thanks to its conditions of the landscape and the very few people in the area.
Surrounded by vineyards as far as the eye can see, the walled town of Laguardia is a celebration of the wine culture, deeply rooted in its traditions, flavours and aromas.

At 1482 metres, Gorbeia Peak stands out among limestone peaks and canyons, framed by the green mountain of Anboto. Traditionally the local council meetings were called from this mountainous massif, using bonfires and horn sirens. Not-to-be-missed by mountain lovers.
Valderejo Natural Park is where the largest colony of griffon vultures in Euskadi has favoured to live. It is also a favourite spot of bird lovers from all over the world who enjoy the huge variety of bird species that circle the skies above.
You can visit cosmopolitan Bilbao to see the latest exhibition in the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum and discover the city's modern architecture. Or enjoy the world of wine in the Rioja Alavesa wineries and end up with a wine therapy treatment at one of the many spas. Or visit La Concha beach in San Sebastián and eat extremely well on the famous "Pintxos route".
